Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND)

At Stalyhill Junior School we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve at school. We ensure that all pupils are included in all aspects of learning and school life. In order to do this many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey. Quality first teaching is vital; however for some children there are occasions when additional support may be needed to help them achieve.

We follow a graduated approach to our SEND provision. We follow the sequence of -Assess, Plan, Do, Review. This way we can constantly make sure that the school is meeting each child's needs. Parents and pupils will be kept informed and be an integral part of the process.

Please see the documents below for more information about SEND provision at Stalyhill Junior School or please contact Mrs Angela Stewart-Milne (SENDCO) or Mr Ben Fuller (Assistant SENDCO) on 0161 338 4290 or via the School Office.

Complaints regarding SEND

Parents and carers of children with special educational needs (SEND) are welcomed into school to discuss any aspect of their child’s provision.

If parents and carers are not satisfied, or are unsure about any aspect of their child’s provision, they should make an appointment with the class teacher, Headteacher or SENCO to discuss this.

If parents and carers are dissatisfied with the outcome of any meetings held they should follow the formal Compaints Procedure (see above).

The Code of Practice outlines additional measures that the Local Authority must set up for preventing and resolving any disagreements. These can be explained if they are required.

Tameside Local Offer

The Local Offer – which can be accessed on the Tameside Council website at https://tamesidelocaloffer.co.uk - should be the first port of call for anyone who has concerns about their child’s development.

It is aimed at all families who feel their children may need some extra help because of additional needs – these could be emotional, physical, behavioural and/or medical and anything from difficulties learning to read to a profound disability.

The Local Offer webpage signposts to all the services and support available for children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and disabilities. It informs families what they are entitled to while also helping them to make informed decisions. As well as linking to individual school and private and voluntary nursery offers, the Local Offer covers other services and support such as voluntary organisations and local activities and also SENDIASS (Together Trust Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support Service - please see leaflet above for contact details).

Parents and carers are encouraged to seek advice as soon as they identify any concerns so that children can receive all the support they may need from the earliest opportunity.
