At Stalyhill we have an active PTA which is made up of parents from both the junior and infant school. Our main aim is to raise funds for both schools. The money which we raise helps to provide “extras” for the pupils.
Each September we hold a planning meeting and arrange a calendar of fundraising events. Whilst these vary from year to year, two of our biggest fundraising events are the Summer and Christmas Fairs. In addition, amongst other events we have held fashion shows, ladies evenings, quiz nights, magic shows and a Christmas shopping evening.
At the end of the school year the PTA donate a cheque to one of the schools on a rota basis. It is then up to that school and the head teacher to decide how that money is spent.
On average we raise £10,000.00 a year. In the past, this money has been used to create an activity play area in the playground, provide football kits and cheerleading pompoms and more recently to purchase a special keepsake medal for each pupil from the Royal Mint to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubiliee.
The PTA is a good way to bring together parents, teachers and others who work together for the good of the school. As a parent, it is a great way to get to know lots of other parents. Anyone can get involved even if you only have a small amount of time available. Stalyhill PTA can only continue to be successful with the support of the parents. If you too are interested in supporting your childs’ school, please come along to our next meeting.
